Silver Price Forecasts
Silver experiences a significant rise due to escalating concerns over the Strait of Hormuz, while investors keenly await the upcoming US Non-Farm Payrolls report. This increase reflects heightened market reactions to geopolitical tensions and anticipation of new economic data that could impact market dynamics. As traders navigate these developments, the precious metal's performance remains in sharp focus.
Silver prices (XAG/USD) have risen by 2.6% to around $80.50 during the early European trading session on Friday. The increase in the value of the white metal highlights its considerable strength as US President Donald Trump confirmed that the ceasefire with Iran remains in effect, despite recent exchanges near the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday.
In theory, renewed geopolitical tensions typically enhance the attractiveness of safe-haven assets like silver. However, the ongoing US-Iran conflicts are pushing up oil prices, which subsequently elevate inflation expectations and deter global central banks from reducing interest rates. This situation, where central banks are likely to maintain or adopt a more hawkish stance on monetary policy, does not favor non-yielding assets like silver.
Silver surges, driven by concerns regarding the Strait of Hormuz
Why it matters: An Iranian parliamentary committee is currently considering a bill that would prohibit US and Israeli ships from passing through the Strait of Hormuz. It also stipulates that countries deemed "hostile" by Iran must pay fees to navigate this critical passage.
This development has caused crude oil prices to rise, fueling concerns about inflation. This has led to speculation that central banks, particularly the Federal Reserve, might increase benchmark interest rates in the near future to counter inflationary pressures.
Rising interest rates elevate the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding metals, thereby diminishing their appeal, which includes silver.
