Asian stocks are experiencing an upward trend as the Dow Jones reaches a new record high

U.S. stock indices closed Tuesday's trading with gains, influenced by strong quarterly results from major American banks and better-than-expected inflation figures. These factors boosted investors' confidence, even though tensions in the Middle East were rising. By the session's end, the main market index increased by 0.38% to 7,543.59 points, while the Nasdaq Composite went up 0.9% to 26,107.01 points.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average posted a slight gain of 9.63 points, or 0.02%, closing at 52,508.27 points. However, IBM shares dragged on the Dow, falling 25% after the company announced its second-quarter earnings would likely miss forecasts due to weak demand in its software and infrastructure sectors.

A surge in semiconductor stocks propelled the Nasdaq to lead among the major indices, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average saw more restrained gains.

Recent Developments:

On Wednesday, the Dow Jones index rose following the release of new U.S. inflation data.

Significance:

The latest data showed that U.S. inflation was lower than expected.

The strong start to the second-quarter earnings season also positively influenced the overall market mood.

Relevance:

While U.S. stock indices mostly advanced on Wednesday, a decline in semiconductor stocks created pressure on the Nasdaq 100.

The Dow Jones reaches a new record high as Nvidia gains from increased investments in AI technology.

On February 6, the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a record high of 50,000 points, while the S&P 500 experienced a notable uptick thanks to strong performances from Nvidia and other chipmakers. In contrast, Amazon's shares declined as the tech giant forecasted a significant increase in spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company announced plans to boost capital expenditure by over 50% this year, intensifying the competition for AI leadership after Alphabet's similar announcement earlier in the week.

Chipmakers' shares rose on expectations of benefiting from increased spending on AI data centers by Amazon and Alphabet.

The gains seen in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices on Friday followed three straight days of losses driven by concerns regarding artificial intelligence.

"Trading was volatile with occasional selling, but there is enough evidence of real demand for AI products and substantial spending to reach that goal," noted Ross Mayfield, an investment strategy analyst at Baird in Louisville, Kentucky.

US stocks ended the day on a positive note, buoyed by decreasing inflation and robust earnings reports from banks

Why It Matters:

The positive momentum of the earnings season continued on Wednesday, enhancing market sentiment. BlackRock and Morgan Stanley's quarterly profits exceeded expectations, and analysts predict that the second-quarter earnings for the S&P 500 will grow by nearly 24% from last year.

PayPal shares surged over 17% on Wednesday following an acquisition proposal from Stripe and Advent International, offering $60.50 per share for the company.

Stocks in the communication services and consumer discretionary sectors performed well, while utilities and energy sectors saw declines.

The Labor Department released the Producer Price Index (PPI) data on Wednesday, showing lower-than-expected inflation, easing fears of potential interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve.

US producer prices fell by 0.3% in June, after rising 0.6% in May, which was below the market forecast of a stable reading. Core producer prices, excluding food and energy goods, rose by 0.2% in June, contrary to market expectations of a 0.4% increase.

This latest inflation data relates to June, where investor optimism was growing due to the possible peace agreement between the US and Iran. However, recent rising tensions have dampened that optimism affecting the stock rally.

On Wednesday, the Dow Jones index rose by 150.91 points or 0.29%, closing at 52,659.18. The S&P 500 increased by 0.38% to close at 7,572.42, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced by 0.62% to reach 26,269.23. In contrast, the Nasdaq 100 fell by 0.28%, closing at 29,502.60.
